Balsamic Green Beans

My parents always host Christmas. When I was there my mom pulled out a bag of green beans to make green bean casserole. I asked if I could make something different with them since we were having such a heavy meal as it was. She of course said go for it, one less thing for her to do! So I whipped these up using what she had on hand. I loved these but I rarely dislike anything with balsamic and garlic! This recipe is a great base. It would be good with some shallots, diced tomatoes, or even pine nuts. I plan to play around with this and make some other versions of this healthy and tasty side dish.

Ingredients:
1-1.5 pound(s) green beans, washed and ends removed
2 tablespoons butter
5 cloves garlic, smashed
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
Salt & Pepper

Directions:
1- Pour 1 cup of water in a large deep skillet. Bring to a boil. Add the green beans, cover. Allow to steam about 5-7 minutes, checking for tenderness.
2- Drain. Add the butter and garlic, stirring continually until evenly coated. Add the balsamic, stir well.
3- Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle on the parmesan cheese. Cover and allow to sit a couple minutes so the cheese melts. Serve hot.

  1. Mmm. Sounds like a great flavor combo. May have to try this out on my hubby who just decided tonight, after years of claiming he hated them, that green beans were okay to eat. LOL. I'm on the hunt for different ways to prepare them! Thanks for sharing. :)

  2. I just made these the other day - but didn't think about adding parmesan cheese to it. Yours looks great!
