Great American Food & Music Festival

Hey there. Want to see how I spent this past Sunday?

Yea- that's good old Paula Deen herself, cooking up a storm.

Let me back track. John and I went to The Great American Food & Music Festival.

There were tons of celeb chefs, lots of restaurants from all around the county, book signings, musicians (although we left too early- it was pouring rain), and lots and lots of good food.

John and I started off by chowing down, because honestly- that's why we were there! We started at this stand...

...and got the shrimp boom boom. Think bang bang shrimp from The Bonefish Grill... so tasty. ::drools:: We split this and were competing over the shrimp. The sauce was so good we were both eating all of the saucy lettuce too.

We walked and looked at all of the stands and restaurants and decided to go to The Neeley's. Here was the menu:

We went with the smoked chicken sandwich. We split it in half, lots of food to consume you know..

We then went to see Duff from Ace of Cakes! I was so excited to see him. He was very down to earth and normal. I loved watching him interact with his workers, very similar to the show.

I didn't get a picture of the final product but they made a hamburger cake in 30 minutes. Pretty impressive I must say. After that we needed MORE FOOD! So off to get some dessert we went. We settled on there churros:

By far the BEST thing I ate that day, possibly ever. I kid you not... this was amazing. I ate two of those and could have kept going but I showed some self control.

While chowing down we went to see the lovely Paula Deen. She was so funny and dirty! I never thought of her as the type to tell dirty jokes or be overly funny, but she really was. Her and her husband were adorable too. She made crab cakes and passed them out... we were close but not close enough to get one. I'd LOVE to have tried something actually made by Paula Deen herself.

After watching Paula we saw this little stand and knew we must make them ours. We bought three (2 red velvet- 1 chocolate) and they are in our freezer now, waiting to be eaten.

It was nice to see so many of the people I watch on TV doing their thing in person. The food was incredible and we had a great time. Too bad it was pouring and we left early, I would have loved to see The Neeley's! Overall, a really fun day!
